A Park Steeped in History

Ridge Road Park's origins trace back to the 1940s when parts of it were constructed and financed by the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.), a New Deal agency that provided jobs during the Great Depression. One notable structure from this era is a rustic, single-story picnic shelter built in 1942, which still stands today as a charming reminder of the park's historical roots. ​

The park is also in proximity to the Odell House, located at 425 Ridge Road. This historic site served as the headquarters for the Comte de Rochambeau and his French forces during the American Revolution in 1781. It was here that Rochambeau and General George Washington made the pivotal decision to march their troops to Yorktown, Virginia, leading to the eventual defeat of the British and securing America's independence.
