Larchmont Yacht Club – Larchmont, NY
Larchmont Yacht Club (LYC), established in 1880, is a prestigious private yacht club located in Larchmont, New York. Situated on the scenic Larchmont Harbor, the club has a rich history and offers a variety of facilities and programs for its members.
History and Legacy
Founded by five sailing enthusiasts—Frank L. Anthony, Fred W. Flint, William C. France, Loring Lothrop, and Charles E. Jenkins—the Larchmont Yacht Club began its journey in a small church in Manor Park. In 1887, the club moved to its current location, purchasing an 11-acre property from Benjamin A. Carver for $10,000. The original Carver residence became the center of the clubhouse, with east and west wings added later to accommodate the growing membership.
Over the years, LYC has hosted numerous prestigious sailing events, including the 1949 Snipe World Championship and the 1996 Western Hemisphere & Orient Championship.
Regattas and Sailing Programs
LYC is renowned for its sailing programs and regattas. Since 1885, the club has hosted the annual Larchmont Race Week, a nine-day event featuring hundreds of boats competing in various classes, including offshore, one-design, and junior sailboats.
The club supports several racing fleets, such as Etchells, Shields, Herreshoff S Class, International One Design, Ideal 18, Interclub Dinghy, and Vanguard 15. Additionally, LYC runs a junior sailing program and hosts the Mamaroneck High School sailing program, the Rye Country Day School sailing team, and college sailing regattas.
Together with the American Yacht Club, LYC co-hosts the Robie Pierce Regatta, a notable event for sailors with disabilities.
